  • An end-face mechanical seal, or a mechanical end-face seal, also referred to as a mechanical face seal but usually simply as a mechanical seal, is a type of seal used in rotating equipment, such as pumps, mixers, blowers, and compressors.
  • Mechanical seals are devices that are used to provide a seal at the point of entry or exit of a rotating shaft. Typically it is used to prevent the leakage of one high pressure fluid into a lower pressure fluid.

  • As one of the keystone species in marine ecosystems, seals help maintain a balance in the food web. Seals consume fish, squid, and crustaceans. Seals are also important food sources for larger predators like orcas, polar bears, and sharks.
  • They are used in various applications ranging from automobiles, ships, rockets and industrial plant equipment, to residential devices. Mechanical seals are intended to prevent the fluid (water or oil) used by a machine from leaking to the external environment (the atmosphere or a body of water).
