Carrier Load Estimation PDF

This section of the System Design Manual contains data and examples to help engineers prepare practical cooling and heating load estimations. Following the determination of the load, the "Applied Psychrometrics" chapter will bridge the gap between the load estimate and equipment selection.

This Manual's material is provided as a broad guide for use by industry and consulting engineers in creating systems. Application to specific installations requires discretion, and Carrier is not liable for any uses made of this text.

The fundamental function of air conditioning is to maintain conditions in a space that are either (1) conducive to human comfort or (2) required by a product or process. To carry out this duty, appropriate equipment must be installed and monitored throughout the year.

The real instantaneous peak load needs determine the equipment capacity; the method of control is determined by the conditions to be maintained during peak and partial load. In general, measuring the real peak or partial load in any particular place is impossible; these loads must be calculated. Part 1's data has been compiled specifically for this purpose.
